Not familiar with Bedford? Our team want to make your visit as enjoyable as possible so they're recommending their very favourite places to visit, eat, drink or just pass a few hours. Welcome to the Local's Guide to Bedford!

Bodyflight

"Bodyflight is an indoors skydiving centre were you can experience the thrill of skydiving without the fear of having to jump out of a plane! You do need to pre-book but it’s worth trying out!"

Derek Ramsay – General Manager

Flowrider

"Flowrider is body boarding indoors (surf and wake board) and you can find it at Bodyflight. There are different price sessions but for a 30 minute taster its about £29.00 which for a novice its all you need. So much fun you forget you’re indoors! It’s apparently first of its kind in the UK. Great fun for all!"

Diana – Guest Services Manager

The Riverside

"The best way to relax is with a stroll along the River Great Ouse, it winds through Bedford town centre but a few minutes stroll and your amongst the gardens with the colourful array of flowers and trees, ducks, cyclists and picnic areas, you would think your in the middle of the countryside!"

Kerrie Hurley – Deputy Manager

Abbeys

"If you’re interested in the old Abbeys, Bedford provides one of the oldest Abbeys in the country. Take a stroll to the ancient village of Elstow to Elstow Abbey founded by Countess Judith in 1078. There is lots of history to the Abbey and then you can read all the literature in one of the many pubs in the area."

Bode – Senior Guest Services Manager (Nights)

Themed Nights

"If you want a great night out locally then the best place to be is Tre Fratelli, they hold themed nights were you can enjoy a traditional Italian two course meal (good selection) and dance the night away for £25.00, for larger parties they will provide a mini bus free of charge to pick you up from the hotel! Great service and fun entertainment!"

Hannah - Guest Services Assistant

Cycling

If you enjoy cycling why not try the national cycle route 51 which will take you down the River Great Ouse to Priory Country park. If you carry on East on this track a new addition takes you further round following the river and you finish at Danish Camp were you can enjoy a variety of refreshments or hire a boat and let someone do the work whilst you enjoy a relaxing boat trip.

Julian - Guest Services Manager
